Subject:Week 9 update
Time:11:14 pm.
Mood: exhausted.
</a></strong></a>[info]firefly124 reminded me that I hadn't posted since before my classes started.  I've been so busy that I didn't realize it had been that long.

Now, I think I will go to bed, since it's been a really, really long week.  9 weeks down, 6 to go. How many days until graduation?

Today was my last day of orientation. I was able to get a copy of the syllabus, which is, no joke, a stack of paper that is 3 inches high. Double-sided. The faculty went through all the expectations for new students, and highly recommends we all quit our jobs to study full time. If I didn't need to pay my bills so badly I would quit my job in a heartbeat. As it is, my medical insurance premiums went up again. I was hoping to get by paying my tuition from my savings from the last few years, but it looks like I'll be taking out a student loan soon. I'm at least going to try keeping my job for the semester... First semester is supposedly the easiest, since there is only 1 day of clinical, so hopefully I can keep my current hours through January, and possibly cut back by the time spring semester starts.

On the upside, I have 3 whole weeks of learning clinical procedures before the staff lose their minds and let me loose in a long term care facility. That is a HUGE weight off of my mind, because, while even though once we are on site it is a sink or swim situation, at least I get to learn a little bit before I may drown spectacularly. :P

It's official, I'm registered for my clinical! My final medical paperwork was turned in this morning, my scrubs picked up, and my appointments were confirmed for orientation next Monday! I'm excited but also super nervous as well. My schedule is going to be tough this semester, classes all day on Mondays and Thursdays, clinical in the hospital on Wednesday mornings. And I have to fit work in there somewhere.

I feel like I'm actually getting somewhere though. I've been pre-nursing for nearly 2 years and I feel like I'm finally on my way to achieving my goal. Now, I just have to get through the classes. I know a lot of the students already have hospital experience, and I can't help but think that I'll be somewhat behind, never having worked in a hospital setting. I know I'm not starting from scratch, at least I have some healthcare background, but none of it hands-on and I'm seriously having dreams of being told, "Mr. S needs a bath. Hop to it." and being left with no instructions or anything. I really hope they have lectures or practice or something, otherwise I'm going to be feeling like a big n00b this year.
